Wheel balancing

WHEEL BALANCING

Wheel balancing can prolong the life of your tyres and save you time and money in the long run. If a wheel is out of balance, it will cause a vibration at highway speeds that can be felt in the steering wheel and/or the seat. At MobiTyre, we can balance your wheels using a wheel balancing machine, resulting in a smoother ride and better wear from your tyres. In order to balance a wheel, weights are carefully added to your car by either clipping them on in the correct spot, or by using adhesive weight strips.

Why wheel balancing is so important?

Once a tyre is fitted to a wheel, the inflated tyre will usually require balancing. The purpose of wheel balancing is to ensure that there is an even distribution of weight around the wheel in order to avoid any imbalances becoming problematic at high speeds. Should your wheels become imbalanced, there will often be vibrations felt through the steering wheel and the car itself at higher speeds. Over extended periods of time, an imbalanced wheel will wear through tyres much faster, and could cause damage and wear to other parts of the vehicle too.

It is important to check that your wheels are balanced regularly, especially after any damage or sever knocks to the wheels.

Signs you may need your wheels balanced

  • Excessive or uneven tyre wear
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Vibrations in the vehicle felt through the seats and/or steering wheel
  • Excessive wear on other car components
